A little info on Aggie:

We adopted Aggie 4 weeks ago from the RSPCA near we live, she'd been there almost 7 months. We all missed Jed when he died of cancer in June, especially our other dog, Alfie, so we chose Aggie as a new companion.

When we visited Aggie at the RSPCA they told us that she sometimes limped a bit after she'd been lying down for a while, but we didn't see her limp once during our numerous visits to her at the pound while we waited for the adoption procedure to go through. However a few days after we got her home, the limping started. We thought perhaps we were over exercising her, so cut the length of our walks down a bit, but it just got worse.

We took her to our vet who felt her leg and said that her knee-cap seems to move too much so booked her in for some x-rays a couple of days later. Our vet showed the x-rays to a specialist who diagnosed a luxating patella, which basically means that the knee-cap just rubs from side to side as Aggie walks rather than staying in the socket, this has started to cause some arthritic change to her leg.

The good news is that an operation will probably give her a much better quality of life and, bearing in mind she is only about 3 years old, is important for making sure that leg doesn't wear out completely.

Unfortunately, the operation won't be covered by insurance as it's a pre-existing problem and the RSPCA won't help as they 'told us she limped' when we adopted her. Now in theory we could take her back to the RSPCA, but we feel that they were a little economical with the truth in desparation to get rid of her, and the fact that she started limping a few days after we got her suggests that they'd had her on some pain/anti-inflamitory medication to stop her limping and according to our vet these take about 3 days to wear out of the system. So, apart from the fact that she has completely made herself at home here and worked her way firmly into our affections, we couldn't take her back to that place.

To try raise some cash towards the operation cost, which is about £1500 - £2000 plus the meds she's going to need long term, I've set up a paypal account at aggieslegs@live.co.uk and am trying to sell some of my drawings....I've made a journal here [link] so if anyone fancies helping out by purchasing one of my drawings or even donating a couple of £ , Aggie and I would be eternally grateful.

Thanks for reading.

she's just on meds, we're not even a quarter of the way there with the funds for the surgery....she's doing well on them though, the limping is all but gone unless she gets too nutty on our walks. Vet says she's got a fantastic life now compared to the one she had, so we shouldn't beat ourselves up about not being able to afford the surgery.
