Drawn from a scan of a very small and old photograph.

The chap was a Captain in the Royal Corps of Signals, this is a present for his son, his wife commissioned me to draw it for him.

As the ref pic was so tiny I had to use alternative references for the lapel badges and his captain pips on the epaulettes, unfortunately I couldn't find a ref for the buttons on his epaulettes as they are regiment specific, so I've had to leave them fuzzy, but hopefully it doesn't detract too much.

A4 Bristol Board
4H & HB wooded pencils, 2H, H, HB, B, 2B & 4B 0.5 mech pencils

Probably spent in the region of 30 hours drawing it.

You never cease to amaze me with your talent. This has the feel of the time the photo was taken... an aged quality. I am not technical enough to tell I see this or that but what I do see is that you have given the drawing personality...that is something your client will treasure.

Thank you for taking the time to find me a link, but it was the brass coat buttons I was looking for, I had a ref for the Signals' badge.

lol no not the pips, I'm talking about the buttons that go through button-holes, the ones above the pips on the epaulettes.

if you really cared? ...charming!!!

well if you did suddenly care enough, I wouldn't mind getting a picture as I got a message today from the lady who commissioned it, she's not well so won't be able to collect it until next week, so it'd give me time to draw them in. From what I've heard, the buttons have Jimmy embossed on them as well, but it's hard to know exactly what they'd look like without a ref.
