Wedding Cake by RTyson Wedding Cake by RTyson
This was the cake I made for my step-daughter, Shelley's wedding in August 2004.

She said the only present she wanted from me was the cake...which came as a bit of a surprise as I'd never made a fruit cake (that's the traditional cake for weddings in the UK) and the last fancy cake I'd made was about 10 years ago, it was a chocolate cake that was meant to be a hedgehog but looked more like road-kill! :D

So anyway, I got the fruit cake recipe from a retired chef I know and baked 4 cakes: 1 large, 2 medium and 1 small. I used one of the medium cakes to practice the icing on. (smart huh!? )

I copied the embroidery on Shelley's wedding dress as the design for the piped icing and used a heart shaped cutter for indentations and the hearts around the bases of each cake. I used an upturned wine glass that I had painted in gold and blue, the colours of her future husband, Ed's forces dress uniform, to separate the top and middle tier and added the curled gold and blue ribbons, then finished it off with the Enesco sculpture as the top piece.

Shelley loved it and I got very many compliments on the day...some people even thought I did it as a living! Hah!! Oh and nobody got food poisoning! :giggle:

Oh yeah and we ate the spare, practice cake at Christmas! :D

Thanks Sarah! glad you like it. :)

cute hamster btw....I used to have a Russian Dwarf hamster called Boris, I bought him one of those hamster homes that are all plastic but he was too small to climb up the vertical tubes so we made little ladders to put inside them so he could go to bed. :D

Very elegant, pure, and "wedding-ish." =) So, did they eat it, and did it taste good? =)

Honestly, they don't call them the "culinary arts" for nothing. Art you can taste may be temporary, but what an impact it can leave on your sensual memory...!

Very nice work.

When I saw the title 'Wedding Cake' I thought it was a drawing, but after seeing this image... I'm totally pleasantly surprised!

Ruth, you have so much talent! It's such a beautiful looking cake. Love the glass idea and the sculpture is divine...

Doesn't matter if the hedgehog cake looked like roadkill. It was CHOCOLATE. That is all.
You did an awesome, totally professional-looking job on this Ruth. I may have already seen this at artwanted.... ? Anyway, I hope it tasted as good as it looked.
